The entrance to the underground car park is on Mirabellplatz, a few steps from our huts, next to Mirabell Palace and the Mirabell Gardens. So if you’re coming to us by car, you can park right by the market, but there are two things you need to know: the surface car park on the square is closed on Thursdays until 4 pm, and if the garage is full, Park & Ride with the trolleybus (Obus) brings you right to the market. We at the Salzburg Christmas market at Mirabellplatz have put together everything about Salzburg Christmas market parking in 2026.
Where’s the best place to park for the Christmas market at Mirabellplatz? The closest option is the Mirabell-Congress-Garage, with its entrance on Mirabellplatz; it’s open 24 hours a day, every day. Alternatively, park at a Park & Ride on the edge of the city and take trolleybus 1, 2 or 3 to the Mirabellplatz stop.
Opening hours and directions to our market are further down.
Parking right at Mirabellplatz: the Mirabell-Congress-Garage
The Mirabell-Congress-Garage is the underground car park right on the square. According to Salzburg Tourism (as of 01/2026) and Salzburg Congress (as of 4/2025):
- Entrance: on Mirabellplatz
- Open: daily, 24 hours a day
- Height limit: 2 metres
- Not available: disabled parking spaces and EV charging points
Parking in the garage is chargeable. The garage operator Contipark shows online how many spaces are currently free.
Thursdays: the Schranne market on the surface car park
Every Thursday, according to Salzburg Tourism, the car park in front of St. Andrä church is closed from midnight to 4 pm for the Schranne (the weekly Thursday market). The Schranne is the traditional weekly market at Mirabellplatz and worth a visit. If the Thursday is a public holiday, the Schranne takes place on the Wednesday before, according to Salzburg Tourism. The underground car park is not affected.
In 2026, three special days fall on a Thursday: our opening day on 19 November, and 24 and 31 December. On these days, it’s best to plan on the underground car park or Park & Ride.
Park & Ride: by trolleybus to the Christmas market
Park at a Park & Ride on the edge of the city and ride to us without changing:
| Park & Ride | Trolleybus to Mirabellplatz | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Messe (exhibition centre) | trolleybus 1 | large car park, reachable from the Walserberg border crossing via the vignette-free stretch of motorway (no motorway toll sticker needed) |
| Süd (south, Alpensiedlung) | trolleybus 3 | reached via the motorway, vignette required |
| Airport | trolleybus 2 | runs via the main station |
According to Salzburg Tourism, there’s a combined ticket for this that covers parking plus a day ticket for buses and trolleybuses in the city, for up to five people. You’ll find the exact conditions at Salzburg Tourism.
Opening hours & getting here
Car park opposite, trolleybus at the door: our Christmas market in front of Schloss Mirabell is open daily from 19 November to 31 December 2026, and entry is free.
Driving in 2026: the Neutor closure and which side of the Salzach
The Neutor tunnel has been closed to cars, motorbikes and buses since 14 September 2026, probably until spring 2027. This mainly affects access to the Old Town on the left bank of the Salzach; you can now only reach the Old Town car parks (Altstadtgaragen) via Neutorstraße. Mirabellplatz is on the right bank of the Salzach and is less affected. Still, expect more traffic around Staatsbrücke and Rudolfskai.
What the Neutor closure means for the Old Town and the Christkindlmarkt – the Austrian name for a traditional Christmas market – is in our guide to the Salzburg Christkindlmarkt.
More car parks, disabled parking and EV charging
- Linzer Gasse car park: open 24 hours, with disabled parking spaces and EV charging points
- Paracelsusbad car park: with disabled parking spaces
- WIFI car park: Monday to Thursday 7 am–10.15 pm, Friday 7 am–8 pm, Saturday 7 am–1 pm, closed on Sundays, height limit 1.90 metres (as of 01/2026)
With a disabled parking badge under § 29b of the Austrian Road Traffic Act (StVO), you can park free of charge in the short-term parking zone (Kurzparkzone). The whole market area is level and barrier-free, including for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
Parking zones and Advent Saturdays
In the City of Salzburg’s Kurzparkzone, parking is chargeable on working days, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm, so not on the 8 December public holiday. On Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm you can park free of charge with a parking disc for a maximum of three hours.
On the four Advent Saturdays – 28 November and 5, 12 and 19 December 2026 – buses and trains in the city’s core zone are to be free for everyone, according to a decision by the City of Salzburg. There’s more about trains and public transport in our article By train to the Salzburg Christmas market.
