Alexandra Wirnsberger

Incense, wool & fur · two huts · from Tiefgraben

Frankincense, wool and fur

Alexandra Wirnsberger from Tiefgraben has not one but two huts here at Mirabellplatz: one is fragrant with frankincense and other incense, the other has warm things made of wool and fur. “Christmas has a special smell!” says Alexandra.

The incense hut has been at the market for almost 30 years; Alexandra took over the wool and fur hut from her father three years ago, and the business has been going for around 50 years. And her verdict on Mirabellplatz: “Small but charming!”

What you’ll find here

  • Pure frankincense from Oman and Somalia, on its own or blended with herbs
  • Incense sticks, incense cones and Räuchermännchen (wooden incense-smoker figures)
  • Fragrance oils made from 100 % essential oils, and matching vessels
  • Lambskin slippers, fur gloves and alpaca socks
  • Felt products and hot-water bottles

For wool and fur, Alexandra relies on purely natural products, “without ‘plastic’ wherever possible”. She sources her goods from small manufacturers in Austria, Germany and Sweden.

“Customers who visit us every year and sometimes drop by for a chat, bring cake and so on.”

New this year

This year, the incense hut has incense sticks and cones with Swiss stone pine. And the range of alpaca products is growing: alpaca gloves and hats are new.

Alexandra's tip

“Great gloves made of fur, but also woollen ones in really lovely colours and patterns! The heart-shaped felt hot-water bottles are another highlight!”

Who’s behind the counter

In both huts, Alexandra's family, helpers and a long-standing team are behind the counter.

Beyond the market

You can find Alexandra and her range all year round at the weekly market in Salzburg (the Schranne), in Bad Ischl and in Ried im Innkreis, as well as at the St. Veiter Wiesenmarkt and the Ursulamarkt in Klagenfurt. On her website (Naturprodukte Wirnsberger), she shows her whole range, from fur and sheep's wool products to socks, creams and essential oils, and you can also order there.
