St. Wolfganger Kräuterhaus

Tea, herbs & spices · the Eichenauer family from St. Wolfgang

Tea and herbs from St. Wolfgang

In the green hut of the St. Wolfganger Kräuterhaus, teas, herbs and spices are stacked high. Behind it is the Eichenauer family from St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut (lake district east of Salzburg); the owner is Ronald Eichenauer. The Kräuterhaus focuses on regional, traditionally made and natural products, following tried-and-tested recipes.

What you’ll find here

  • Tea, including fruit teas
  • Herbs
  • Spices and spice blends

At the main shop in St. Wolfgang, the range is even bigger: more than 100 kinds of tea, ten curry blends such as the “Lila Curry” (purple curry) with hibiscus and rose petals, Wipferlsirup (syrup made from young fir shoots) and Murmeltierbalsam (marmot balm), plus flavoured salts and spices from all over the world.

“Many of our products are made in the region, from natural raw materials. Our customers really appreciate that.”

— Ronald Eichenauer, owner of the St. Wolfganger Kräuterhaus

Who’s behind the counter

Even as a child, Ronald helped out at his grandfather's, who made herbal blends to handed-down recipes. Ronald did his apprenticeship in his grandfather's business and took over the company at the age of 18. The family's first product, however, came from his grandmother: the fir-shoot syrup (Tannenwipferl-Sirup). The shoots for it come from the area around Abtenau, where the silver fir is very common.

Beyond the market

The Kräuterhaus's main shop is at Markt 26 in St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut and is open daily. The range is also available in the online shop.
