A special way to round off 24 December is the Silent Night commemoration (Stille-Nacht-Gedenkfeier) in Oberndorf, where the carol “Silent Night” (“Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!”) was first heard in 1818. According to SalzburgerLand Tourism, it takes place every year on 24 December at 5 pm in front of the Silent Night Chapel (Stille-Nacht-Kapelle), without interruption since 1953. The exact programme for 2026 hasn’t been published yet.
