Which Christmas markets are there near Salzburg? Christmas markets around Salzburg in 2026 include the Wolfgangseer Advent (the joint Advent markets of the villages on the Wolfgangsee), Advent in Mondsee, the Christkindlmarkt – the Austrian name for a traditional Christmas market – in Maria Plain, the Adventmarkt in St. Leonhard, the Silent Night Advent in Oberndorf (Stille-Nacht-Advent), the markets in Hallein and the Berchtesgadener Advent. Hallstatt only has a Christkindlmarkt on 8 December.

Wolfgangseer Advent: St. Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang
The Wolfgangseer Advent links three villages on the lake. According to the organiser, it’s open from 20 November to 20 December 2026: on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 am to 7.30 pm, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 7.30 pm and on Wednesdays from 1 pm to 7.30 pm, with a smaller selection in St. Gilgen on Wednesdays. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, except on 7 and 8 December.
To get there, take regional bus 150, which leaves from Mirabellplatz and the main station towards St. Gilgen and Bad Ischl. According to media reports, it has been running up to four times an hour since September 2026. You’ll also find a piece of the Wolfgangsee at our market: tea, herbs and spices from the St. Wolfganger Kräuterhaus run by the Eichenauer family.
Advent in Mondsee
The Mondsee Christmas market is spread over five blocks in 2026: 20 to 22 November, 27 to 29 November, 4 to 8 December, 11 to 13 December and 18 to 20 December. According to Upper Austria Tourism, the market includes crafts in the cloister of Schloss Mondsee (Mondsee Castle) and a children’s Advent, and entry is free. You’ll find the opening times for each day at the Mondsee-Irrsee tourist information office. Regional bus 140 runs from Mirabellplatz towards Mondsee.
Small markets close to the city: Maria Plain and St. Leonhard
- Plainer Christkindlmarkt: at the pilgrimage basilica of Maria Plain in Bergheim. According to the organiser, it’s open from 20 November to 20 December 2026 on Fridays from 4 pm to 8 pm, on Saturdays from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Sundays from 11.30 am to 7.30 pm, plus on 7 and 8 December. The organiser recommends the S1 suburban train, trolleybus 6 and buses 21, 120 and 121, among others; bus 21 runs from Mirabellplatz towards Bergheim.
- Adventmarkt St. Leonhard: at the pilgrimage church in Grödig. According to Salzburg Tourism, it’s open from 28 November to 20 December 2026 on Saturdays from 2 pm to 7 pm and on Sundays from 11 am to 7 pm, plus on 8 December. Trolleybus 5 (towards Grödig Untersbergbahn) and bus 25 run from Mirabellplatz towards Grödig.
Silent Night Advent in Oberndorf and Advent in Hallein
In Oberndorf, where “Silent Night” (“Stille Nacht”) was first heard in 1818, the Silent Night Advent on Stille-Nacht-Platz is open from 20 November to 24 December 2026: on Thursdays from 2 pm to 7 pm, on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 8 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm, plus on 8 and 23 December and on 24 December from 10 am to 5 pm.
Hallein has two markets: the Christmas market in the Alte Saline (the old saltworks) on the Pernerinsel from 13 November to 20 December 2026, and the Adventmarkt on Bayrhamerplatz from 20 November to 24 December 2026, both from Friday to Sunday. Buses 160 and 170 run from Mirabellplatz to Hallein.

Departure and return at Mirabellplatz: our Christmas market in front of Schloss Mirabell is open daily from 19 November to 31 December 2026, including for a quick visit before you set off or after you get back.
Across the border: Berchtesgadener Advent (Germany)
According to Berchtesgadener Land Tourism, the Berchtesgadener Advent in the historic village centre is open daily from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, with around 50 stalls. Bus 840 runs from Mirabellplatz towards Königssee. Take your passport or ID card with you for the trip into Bavaria.
Hallstatt: Christmas market on 8 December only
In 2026, Hallstatt only has a Christkindlmarkt on one day: Tuesday 8 December, from 10 am to 6 pm on the Marktplatz (market square).
