The Hellbrunn Christmas market 2026, the Hellbrunner Adventzauber, is open from 19 November to 24 December, and it’s closed on Mondays. We’re the Christmas market at Mirabellplatz, a market in its own right, and we’re happy to recommend Hellbrunn to you, especially if you’re coming with children. Bus 25 to Hellbrunn stops at our place on Mirabellplatz, so you can drop by on your way there or back. We’ve put together the opening hours, entry and how to get there for 2026 here.
What is the Hellbrunner Adventzauber? The Hellbrunner Adventzauber is an Advent market in front of Schloss Hellbrunn (Hellbrunn Palace) in the south of the city of Salzburg. The Gassner family founded it in 2001, and in 2026 it celebrates its 25th anniversary. According to the organiser, the palace façade with its 24 windows becomes an Advent calendar, with a forest of more than 700 conifers in front of it.

Getting there by bus 25 – also from Mirabellplatz
The easiest way to get to Hellbrunn is bus line 25 to the “Schloss Hellbrunn” stop. According to the organiser, it runs from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) via the Rathaus (town hall), and it also stops at our place on Mirabellplatz. From there the journey takes around 17 minutes, according to the timetable (as of 23 October 2026). On Advent weekends, according to the organiser, extra buses run on line 25 between 1 and 6 pm.
How to get to Mirabellplatz is on our info page.
By car: take the A1, exit Salzburg Süd, to Fürstenweg 37. There are car parks right by the palace and at Salzburg Zoo; parking is charged at both. At weekends and on public holidays, the organiser asks visitors to come by bus and train.
Kinderweihnachtswelt, Krampuswelt and music at Hellbrunn
- Kinderweihnachtswelt (children’s Christmas world): from 20 November, with a Christmas train, a petting zoo, a scout camp with Stockbrot (bread dough wrapped around a stick and baked over the fire), a face-painting corner, a Christmas post office and a fairy-tale treasure hunt. Times vary depending on the activity.
- Krampuswelt (Krampus exhibition): an exhibition by the Anifer Krampusse – Krampus being a horned, fur-clad figure from Alpine folklore who accompanies St. Nicholas. On Friday 4 December at 6 pm, the Grossgmainer Krampusse run in front of the palace steps, and on Sunday 13 December the Anifer Krampusse come without their masks for the “Tag der Krampusse” (“Krampus Day”). All the Krampus dates in the city are in our article Krampus in Salzburg 2026.
- Music: on Wednesdays Stubenmusik (folk music in small ensembles) in the Orangery, at weekends live Christmas music, and on 13 December “Sing mit!” (“Sing along!”) in the palace chapel.
Most of the grounds are step-free, though some paths are gravel or natural ground.
Hellbrunn and Mirabellplatz in one day
On weekdays, Hellbrunn doesn’t open until 1 pm. You can spend the morning with us at Mirabellplatz – we’re open from 10 am. Pick up a Salzburger Breze (a Salzburg-style pretzel) from Alexander Reisinger or a Bauernkrapfen (traditional fried dough pastry) from Christl-Alm, then hop on bus 25 at Mirabellplatz.
Or the other way round: spend the afternoon in town and head to Hellbrunn from 7 pm, when entry is free. Our market is the small Christkindlmarkt – the Austrian name for a traditional Christmas market – in front of Schloss Mirabell, where locals tend to go. On Mondays, when Hellbrunn is closed, and after 24 December, we’re still open, right up to 31 December. You’ll find all the times on our info page.
