At Apres Allstars at Mirabellplatz (Mirabell Square), small glasses shaped like ski boots click into real mini ski bindings, and at two other huts there are alpaca socks and fur gloves. If you’re looking for gifts for skiers, you’ll find both with us at the Salzburg Christmas market: something for the round after a day on the slopes and something warm for the piste. Here we sort the ideas by occasion, with links to the huts and to the online shop.

What are good gifts for skiers? Good gifts for skiers fit what happens around a day on the slopes: things for the après-ski round such as the Shotski (a ski with several shot glasses mounted on it) and the ski boot shot glass, decorations for the chalet or the flat share, something for collectors and warm things for the slopes. You’ll find all of these with us at the Christmas market at Mirabellplatz in Salzburg.

You’ll find all the huts at Mirabellplatz further down.

Behind Apres Allstars are Tobi Deckert and Michi Gasteiger from Siegsdorf in the Chiemgau (the Chiemsee area). How a crazy idea turned into the glass with a binding is told in our article on the ski boot shot glass.

For the après-ski round: Shotski and ski boot shot glass

A Shotski is a ski with several glasses on it that everyone drinks from at the same moment. How exactly that works is in What is a shotski?.

  • SwigSki3000: the modular Apres Allstars Shotski, made of pine. The basic set has four modules, and with extensions of two modules each it gets longer, for bigger groups. It comes with or without bindings and glasses. With the eye screw you can also hang a single module, glass included, around your neck.
  • Ski boot shot glass with binding: in a set of four. The glass holds 4 cl (40 ml), is made of real glass from Austria, calibrated and dishwasher safe. It can also take hot drinks such as Glühwein (hot mulled wine, spiced with cinnamon, cloves and orange). The binding can be screwed onto a wall, a board or an old ski, and cords to wear it around your neck are included.
  • Shot Slope Slalom: a silicone ice mould. After about eight hours in the freezer there’s an iceberg on the table, and the schnapps runs ice-cold down two channels into the glasses. The mould also works as a cake tin; glasses aren’t included.

At Apres Allstars at Mirabellplatz you can have a go on the Shotski. More on that in Après-ski in the middle of Salzburg.

For the chalet or the flat share: mini skis, gondola, Zirbe scent

For everyone who has a ski chalet, a flat share with a bar or simply a shelf full of ski things:

  • Wooden mini skis: in a set of four, with or without binding and glass, as a table decoration or to wear around your neck.
  • Party Gondola: a holder styled like a cable car cabin that slots together, with room for up to four mini skis with their bindings and glasses. It stands on the table or hangs from a string. You buy the mini skis separately, or straight away in the gondola set.
  • Zirbe room fragrance with mini skis and poles: here, little ski poles are the reed sticks for the Zirbe scent. The set contains mini skis, poles and the Zirbe fragrance. Separately there’s also a set of eight rattan mini ski poles, each 15 cm long.

The tip from the Apres Allstars hut to make the gift personal: the binding has two drilled holes, and the screws are included. That way you can mount the glass on an old, retired ski that belongs to the person you’re giving it to. A small cross-head screwdriver is all you need.

For collectors: glasses, corks, Skizipper

Anyone who already has a set will be happy with spares or a piece they’re still missing:

The sets are assembled by hand in workshops for people with disabilities in Piding and Rosenheim. Who works there is in Pidinger Werkstätten: who assembles the ski boot shot glasses by hand.

Warm on the slopes: hats, gloves, socks

You’ll find warm things for a day on the slopes at two other huts at our market:

  • Astrid Siebenhandel from Berndorf near Salzburg has hats, headbands, gloves and scarves, plus thermal leggings, socks and leg warmers to wear under your ski trousers. For the evening in the chalet there are house socks and hut slippers, some trimmed with fur. Much of it is made from natural fibres such as alpaca, cashmere or mohair, some from functional fabrics.
  • Alexandra Wirnsberger from Tiefgraben has fur gloves, lambskin slippers, alpaca socks and hot-water bottles. New this year are alpaca gloves and hats. Her own tip: the gloves made of fur and wool, and the heart-shaped felt hot-water bottles.

Small gifts and stocking fillers for skiers

For an invitation to an evening at the chalet, or as an extra with a bigger present:

  • Schnapps with a mini ski: a bottle of schnapps or liqueur from the Rettenbacher family from St. Koloman, together with the Apres Allstars bottle holder. The small wooden plate hangs on the neck of the bottle and holds one or two mini skis with glasses.
  • Tea for the evening after skiing: at the Eichenauer family’s St. Wolfganger Kräuterhaus there’s tea, including fruit teas, plus herbs and spices.
  • Voucher: if you can’t decide, you’ll find a printable voucher in the Apres Allstars online shop.

We’ve collected Salzburg souvenirs for everyone who doesn’t ski in Salzburg souvenirs from the Christmas market.
